This past Saturday was not only a scorcher but it was also a great time to lend a hand to my dad (also a musician/songwriter) with the recording of some of his original songs. The said tunes are instrumentals, mostly ballads, and were played exclusively on piano (and a kick-ass one to boot, a Roland electric piano), in the comfort of his own living room.
Six on Saturday
The tracks were laid down in a matter of hours by using the ever so stylish recording device by Tascam, which we rented for the long weekend. It's quite the fun (and humbling) experience to get behind the umpteen dials, buttons and faders. It's much different than playing the instruments yourself and letting someone else choose where the sounds go. We made it somehow, several recording hours later and with the aid of pizza slices, fruit, water and the occasional tuning in to game 4 of the Habs-Fylers series (3rd round). Before I digress, it was an awesome run by Les Habitants. They unfortunately lost the series 4 games to 1. :(
Bright Colours
The next day, dad called me up to get instructions on how to record more songs on his own, 'cause he felt he had more in the tank. He's usually not too keen on new digital technology, because he says he doesn't understand it. Nah, not this time! Minutes after hanging up, he followed those instructions and threw his hesitations out the window and banged out 4 new songs! Did I mention that I was proud of my dad this weekend?
