Happy Hour @ ...

... whatever terrasse that matches the mood. It's a sultry SUMMER-esque day in Spring, in good ol' downtown Montreal - in pretty much the Westernmost part, where the downtown Concordia campus shines bright and construction workers either work or enjoy the Tim Horton's coffee-and-muffin-or-donut combo.

You should text or call if you feel like joining the party. I'll be around - hey, I'll buy a round! Hope you know my # 'cause, unfortunately I don't feel too keen on spreadin' the digits over the web. OK now this is becoming a bigger deal than I expected. I don't even love run-on sentences. They just happ... OK DONE

CHEEEERS,
Drew

PS. More blog entries are a'comin'. I want to throw together a nifty timeline. Suspense pops in...

Anything and everything Drewish (including music update)

OK, haven't been around in a while. Let's get back on track.

The recordings are panning out well. The sweet and satisfying feeling is a bit characteristic of the heartwarming effect I sometimes get from sipping on a hot beverage (spiked or not) after getting caught in a rain(rain...rrrain)shower - minus appropriate gear, with denims on and with grocery bags in one hand and a rented Fender Precision bass in the other. Wait, that was this past Saturday and, DAMN what a lifesaver that hot beverage was. Remind me to shorten my analogies in the future though. I just loved where I was going with this one. I kinda like it now!!! Self-admiration ensues then reality gently sets in...

I'm back! On to some very fine details 'bout the PROjECT...

Getting closer

The pre-recordings, of 5 all-new songs, were completed on both April 20th and the 21st, and it was quite the productive couple of sessions. There is still a little bit of work to do before hitting the studio but things are advancing as planned. It looks like the new tunes will be recorded next Sunday, and - after registering them with SOCAN for copyright purposes - will be available in early May on Myspace (streaming) and iTunes (download). Until next time...

Version 2.0 - my Myspace page

The video updates to the recordings of my new songs will coincide with an overhaul to my Myspace page. I'm working on it; new Myspace page will be up and runnin' by the middle of next week! It's all coming together!

Wish me luck in the new studio. I'll share details (in text format along with video snippets). See you there!

April, DEMO #2

Now perusing sites on government grants, on the musical side of the fence. I clicked on one I was already familiar with, which is FACTOR. The deadline to apply for funding to record a new demo is April 15th. I'm on it!!!

New demo almost in session

The recording process is definitely no cup of tea (more like a large Espresso with its amazing aroma yet stress-releasing effects) and everything leading up to the sessions demands patience (and on occasion requires a lucky 2nd wind). Regardless, I see all of it as a healthy learning experience! After all, I'm in this for the long haul. If I didn't come out of the journey with new knowledge and insight, I'd probably lose the drive for it. Yeah, that's not going to happen anytime soon! I'll keep you posted with video updates of the new songs, so you'll see for yourself whether or not I'm taking it all in stride. Feedback is welcome :) :)

I'm currently lining up all the potential studios for my new demo (defining factors being the different vibes I get from them and, of course, the price quotes) and will decide on the right one by this Saturday. I already have my heart set on one in particular but don't want to disclose anything just yet. Suspense! Am I good at that?! Stay tuned for details...

Back to the start, only for a moment

(note: these photos and many more will soon be available in colour on both my Photobucket and Flickr pages)

From time to time -- like right about... now -- I like to reminisce about my days growing up in the Gaspésie region of "La Belle Province" and thinking about the great times I had. Here's a couple of photos taken back in the Summer of '05, which show me in quite the peaceful state. I wasn't even holding a guitar in any of these shots. There's something about the fresh sea-salty air over there that helps change my perspective on things and even helps me write more songs!

It's still a beautiful place to venture out to when wanting to escape the city stress and/or to reflect on life. I'd recommend visiting the place in June, July or August. Take the scenic route and enjoy the ride!

A changed man (with a new blog to boot)

I guess a title of that nature requires a clever explanation. It's nothing complicated really. I had a great night out in the city of Montreal hanging with friends at Le Saint Sulpice club. Now that I have a blog, I can give my 2 cents on almost anything like, for example, the sweet deal that is the $10 pitchers of Boréale Rousse at the aforementioned bar or the last Radiohead concert I went to, which was next to phenomenal. So that is why I'm a changed man.

That's it for now; more entries coming up very soon! I'm enjoying this already! It feels almost therapeutic - or sticking to the French (Québécois) theme - c'est comme une thérapie, une vraie de vraie!

Cheers,
A.
